about the paintings for the Narratives exhibition

there is a narrative that occurs when
image and word are placed within
the same boundary or frame
word(s) change the
viewers’
perception of
an image or images
reciprocally an image or images
alter the viewers’ understanding of a word or words
and
the dimensional element of time via the process of layering
affects the narrative of image and word
foreground becomes background
background(s) become the
underlying structure
within which the
fusion of
image
and
word
occurs

the body of work for this exhibition explores the narrative possibilities of when
image and word are bound together within the framework of painting
the work as a unified whole presents the viewer with a
visual lexicon
that entices one
to engage a larger narrative
to take an imaginative leap into new worlds

the Carnegie Gallery exhibition
january 4 to january 27

rough draft of the information/exhibition card below

more to come ...

about the 'weather series'

all of the paintings are 12" x 12"
paint, oil bar, pencil
on plywood

they are atmospheric renderings
fields of gray infused,
penetrated, overlaid

by the crushing blue of sky
by the ethereal white of winter
by the red radiance of a late autumn sun

directing the eye toward the days of
november and december

bleak yet
luminescent

light so soft
that things appear
illuminated from within

directly from the tube

Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition

what a crazy beautiful weekend
the crazy part was the
unbelievable heat
on the "fry"day

as for the beautiful
though the attendance
seemed sparse
compared to other years
those that
came
were fully present
interested and
interesting
engaged
lively

what a
pleasure
as an artist
to encounter
such beautiful souls

thank you to everyone
who came to look and see
and to share their experience with me

...

thanks to the TOAE organizers and volunteers
i am certain that it was a challenging year given the
ongoing construction/renovations to Nathan Philips Square

...

thanks to The Grid
in particular to Sara Angel
